In a proactive move to enhance campus safety and ensure unhindered movement for female students, Dhaka University (DU) has decided to deploy two members of its proctorial team in two shifts daily at three women’s residential halls. The decision was made during a meeting held on Monday (19 May) at the Proctor’s Office, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan. The meeting was part of the university administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen campus security and facilitate safe navigation for students.

The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, and assistant proctors.

As per the decisions, proctorial team members will be stationed in front of Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall, Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall during two shifts—from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm—to ensure the safety and smooth movement of female students. Additionally, a dedicated mobile number from the Proctor’s Office will be displayed at the gates of these halls, allowing students to seek assistance when needed.

The administration also resolved to request police patrol vehicles for these three halls by sending a letter to senior law enforcement authorities soon. To modernize the proctorial team, new vehicles will be provided, and search operations to evict vagrants and trespassers will be intensified. Efforts to regulate outsider access to the campus will continue unabated.

Addressing the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, “Despite our limitations, campus security measures are being steadily improved. We are taking stricter steps to ensure student safety and seek everyone’s cooperation in this endeavor.”
