Government Renames 16 Technical Institutions in Bangladesh

The government has renamed 15 government Technical Schools and Colleges, removing the names of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her family members, Awami League leaders, and their relatives from the institutions’ titles. Additionally, one engineering college, previously named after Sheikh Hasina’s late husband, nuclear scientist Dr M A Wazed Miah, has also been renamed.

 

The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has instructed field-level officials to update the signboards at the main gates and websites of these 16 institutions to reflect the new names. The directive was issued on Thursday, 8 May, following a notification from the Technical and Madrasa Education Division of the Ministry of Education on 13 April, which announced the renaming of these institutions.

 

According to the notification, the renamed institutions include:

 

- Sheikh Kamal Government Technical School and College in Baliakandi, Rajbari, now renamed Baliakandi Government Technical School and College.

- Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Government Technical School and College in Tungipara, Gopalganj, now Tungipara Government Technical School and College.

- Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Government Technical School and College in Bhedarganj, Shariatpur, now Bhedarganj Government Technical School and College.

- Sheikh Hasina Government Technical School and College in Amtali, Barguna, now Amtali Government Technical School and College.

- Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Technical School and College in Hizla, Barisal, now Hizla Government Technical School and College.

- Shahid Sheikh Rasel Government Technical School and College in Santhia, Pabna, now Santhia Government Technical School and College.

- Bir Muktijoddha Md Rezaul Karim Talukdar Government Technical School and College in Shibchar, Madaripur, now Shibchar Government Technical School and College.

- Ayesha Shariat Ullah Government Technical School and College in Boalmari, Faridpur, now Boalmari Government Technical School and College.

- Wazed Chowdhury Government Technical School and College in Goalanda, Rajbari, now Goalanda Government Technical School and College.

- Alhaj Abdur Razzak Government Technical School and College in Damudya, Shariatpur, now Damudya Government Technical School and College.

- Bir Muktijoddha Shafikul Islam Khoka Government Technical School and College in Madarganj, Jamalpur, now Madarganj Government Technical School and College.

- Taimus Ali Government Technical School and College in Juri, Moulvibazar, now Juri Government Technical School and College.

- Bir Muktijoddha Moulana Asad Ali Government Technical School and College in Madhabpur, Habiganj, now Madhabpur Government Technical School and College.

- Abu Sharaf Sadeque Government Technical School and College in Keshabpur, Jashore, now Keshabpur Government Technical School and College.

- M Baytullah Government Technical School and College in Patnitala, Naogaon, now Patnitala Government Technical School and College.

- Dr M A Wazed Miah Engineering College in Thakurgaon, now Thakurgaon Engineering College.

 

On 6 May, an order signed by Md Rezaul Haque, Director (Vocational) of the DTE, directed principals and regional directors to implement the name changes across all platforms, including signboards and websites. The order was made public on Thursday, 8 May.
